Mahi which means "our work, our craft" was established in 2001 and represents the fulfilment of a dream for Brian Bicknell and his wife Nicola. Brian has an exceptional pedigree both in New Zealand and internationally and established his reputation as winemaker for Seresin domestically and Errazuriz in Chile. Conscious that Marlborough was in danger of losing its identity, BrianŐs vision for Mahi was to highlight the individuality of particular vineyard sites rather than conforming to the regional stereotype. This approach has led to a strong following amongst journalists, wine buyers and consumers alike. In 2006 Mahi moved to its current winery and continues to explore the exciting possibilities presented by specific vineyards and growers with the focus remaining on Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. www.mahiwine.co.nz.

NGW have taken on two new wineries from Northern Italy, Georgio Collutta from Friuli, a secong generation producer from Collio Orientali who has set out on his own and produces typical, well priced wines from a region that is growing in popularity and status in the UK; and Erste & Neue from Caldaro in Alto Adige, a cantina Sociale with Beppe Caviola as wine consultant. The wines here are clean, crisp and very varietal and extremely well made. We are excited about showing these wines to the market in early 2008. for more details please contact Ben Llewelyn.

November 2007

We are proud to announce that we will be working with prestigious Champagne House Champagne Moncuit. Robert Moncuit has been growing vines and making wine in Le Mesnil sur Oger (the home of Krug and Salon) for many years and is renowned for the intrinsic quality and finesse of his wine. The range extends to just 3 wines, all Blanc de Blanc. The Brut offers nutty, lemon zest fruit and a hint of brioche and honey, whilst on the palate is softly vigourous and held taught by a balanced acidity and ripe, citric fruit. The Extra Brut is slightly more assertive on the palate and offers minerality as well as purity of fruit and should age well. The Vintage 2002 reflects this fabulous vintage well, having hazlenut and brioche notes, touches of honeysuckle and lemon and a truly elegant and luxurious palate. We are looking forward to showing these wines at Wine Plus in 2008. For more information please contact Ben Llewelyn at New Generation Wines.

October 2007

We are pleased to be representing the wines of Viniterra from Mendoza in Argentina. The Malbecs produced represent some of the best value on the market and the whites are absolutly fantastic, and under the guiding eye of Argentinian guru Angela Muir MW these wines are set to become a huge fixture on the world scene.

Friday June 1st 2007

Nathalie Nash has joined the company to bolster the London Sales Team. Having spent 9 years working with Champagne Ruinart she is perfectly placed to represent our increasing portfolio of world class wines. She will be focusing primarily on the on-trade and independent retail sector.

17-18th January 2007

Wine +: Held at Olympia, Wine + is set to replace the ILWTF as the place to taste for the on-trade. We will be on Stand 123 showcasing a number of our wines, including the Main Divide wines from New Zealand’ South Island and made by Pegasus Bay, Il Blu 2004, the fabulous new release from Brancaia and the new wines from the La Liviniere vineyards owned by the ever more exciting Domaine Gayda.

15-16th January 2007

Wines of New Zealand: We will be showing the wines for Hans and Pegasus Bay, including Decanter Award winning 2006 Riesling from Pegasus Bay. For further details please contact Ben Llewelyn.

December 2006

Launch of Main Divide, two hand made wines from the stable of Pegasus Bay and are pitched at the on-trade by-the-glass sector. The Sauvignon Blanc is clean, bright and fruit driven whilst the Pinot Noir replicates the elegance and finesse of some of the best Pinot Noirs from the South Island. For further details please contact Ben Llewelyn.

November 2006

The Wine Spectator has awarded the 2004 Brancaia 'Il Blu' 96 points and the coveted spot of 9th on their ‘Top’ 100 for 2006 list. This is a fabulous award, but this is in addition to Tre Bicchieri, 5 Grappoli ( perhaps the proudest award as it is given by Italian Sommeliers), as well as other coveted prizes being awarded to the rest of the range (Ilatraia also has 5 Grappoli and 92 points in the Wine Spectator). For the full list and more information please contact Ben Llewelyn.

October 2006

New Generation Wines have finally found a permanent home and have a warehouse at last! Based just down the road from Borough Market we now have offices and storage for the ever growing range of wines we are selling. There are also some great places to eat around and about which has proved unexpectedly popular with the team! For full details contact Angela Richardson.

October 2006

Ca’Viola, the Piedmontese estate of Beppe Caviola that has recently moved to Dogliani in Alba, have triumphed once again in the Gamberro Rosso guide with Tre Bicchiere being awarded to the fabulous 2005 Dolcetto Barturot. His ability to create greatness from this otherwise humble variety is well known, but his entire range of wine is something to shout about and we congratulate Beppe and Simonetta and applaud their work, long may it continue.

October 2006

Due to a legal battle in the USA, Herzog are changing their name to Hans. Baron Herzog, the Kosher wine producer in California and no relation to Hans have forced the hand of the boutique winery, but as Therese Herzog rather aptly put it, you do not call your friends by their surnames, so ‘Hans’ reflects the relationship with our customers; we consider them all friends! For the full press release please contact Ben Llewelyn.

19th September 2006

New Generation Wines Limited held the first portfolio tasting at Kettners in Soho, London. The full array of producers provided us with the first chance to review all our producers’ wines together, something of a milestone. Hans and Therese Herzog, Vincent Chansault from Domaine Gayda and Lucia Borra from Brancaia all attended.

11th September 2006

Showing the wines of Von Siebenthal at the wines of Chile it became very clear that Mauro von Siebenthal has endeared himself with the members of the trade and press to the extent that queues formed at the stand. The most interesting and pleasing news being that on the annual tour of the producers of Chile, Mauro’s small, intimate estate and excellent wines provide full relief from some of the larger, more corporate winery tours they have to endure!

August 2006

Having spent a great deal of time searching for the right New Zealand producer, two come along at once! Both Herzog (see below for details on name change) of Marlborough and Pegasus Bay (part of the family of 12) were on the look out for a new agent in the UK and after tasting the wines and meeting the people involved we deliberated for about the time it took to put our glasses down as to whether we should take the wines.

June 2006

Alex Gambal, the micro-negociant of Beaune signed up to NGW. Having deliberated long and hard about whether we wanted a Burgundy producer on our books, we felt that when the opportunity arose to represent this fabulous producer with such an interesting background we would be foolish to say no!

June 2006

New Generation Wines are proud to have formed a link with Julian Brocard, son of Jean Marc Brocard, to represent his two single domaine Chablis in the UK. The organic and Bio-dynamic Domain de la Boissonneuse is a wonderful example of true Chablis, with no oak and only nature doing the talking. Domaine Herve Azo is a fine producer with a range of 1er Cru vineyards and delicious AC Chablis.

1st June 2006

Bassil Richardson officially joined the team as both delivery driver and logistics manager. He is both highly skilled Martial Arts expert and a charming fellow so will no doubt be involved in debt recovery too!

May 2006

Dominio del Bendito, a new and exciting estate in the heart of Toro built around the unstinting work and passion of Antony Terryn, a French Winemaker, joined the portfolio with 3 reds and a Vin de Paille. These wines are from an 8 hectare vineyard that lies in the rocky hillsides above the main vineyard area of Toro.

May 2006

Vina von Siebenthal of Aconcagua signs up as our newest agency. The Chilean producer’s status in the wine world is one that fits perfectly with the company’s ethos and with an already cult following we are extremely confident of our future relationship.

8th May 2006

New Generation Wines officially launch the company at The River Café with new Directors Richard Boote and Hamish Young.
