Gilles Guerrin Vergisson

Gilles Guerrin and his wife Sylvie have a very impressive estate in Vergisson where they produce a range of their wines without the use of oak, and a range of wines that have seen some oak, either as part of the fermentation or ageing or both. The results are excellent value wines one hopes to find in Burgundy that offer both the character and style of the region but without the heady prices.

The wines are produced from the Guerrin's own vines, some of which are 45 years old and in the very best plots in the area. Vergisson has become more and more attractive, once known as the lighter Pouilly-Fuissé commune, it now benefits from higher temperatures that ripen fruit more fully. Therefore, the fringe vineyards that are classed as Mâcon are benefiting too; more ripeness, better balance and improved vineyard techniques have provided the Mâcon-Vergisson vineyards with some serious fruit at very good value.

2006 Mâcon-Vergisson

Fermented and aged in stainless steel, this is a nutty, mineral wine with lovely acidity and crisp green apple fruit and a touch of tropical fruit on the finish.

2006 Mâcon-Vergisson "La Roche"

Having had a partial oak ageing this wine has developed spicy aromas and a deep creamy nut character that is the marque of these wines. It is both complex and forward showing drinking extremely well now and for 2 or 3 years to come.
