Cantina di Casteggio

Founded in 1907 Cantina di Casteggio lies approximately 80 miles south of Milan and 40 miles from Pavia in Lombardy. Based in the sub-region of Oltrapa Pavese, the Cantina is responsible for some of the most interesting wines from the area and with internationally renowned wine consultant Riccardo Cottarella heading up a new initiative called 'Vite, Ambiente, Qualita' (Vine, Environment, Quality) the quality is on an vigorous upward trend.

We have selected two wines from the estate. The Pinot Grigio is testament to how well this variety can reflect terroir and respond to some simple attention and under-stressing in the vineyard. Coming from the Oltrape Pavese sub-region means more control is put on yield quantities and vineyard management thus producing better flavour intensity and finesse than other, more popular regions of production. The close proximity to Alba makes it unsurprising that Barbera grows so well here and the wines produced are always extremely pretty and well balanced.
